We were singing a chorus a week or so ago. It was an invitation by the song-writer to look into the beautiful face of Jesus.
And as I was singing, I felt Him whisper to me, ‘Look. Look at Me. Deeply, sincerely. Take note of how I appear to you. Gaze into My eyes. What do you see?”
So I did.
Perhaps my picture of Jesus is different to the way you see Him. Maybe our culture, our nationality, our background give us different ideas of His appearance. Maybe some see Him as pale-skinned, whilst others look at pictures that have been painted and see Him with the dark skin of the Mediterranean shores, or the even darker skin of Africa. Maybe His hair colour varies, the shape of His mouth, the size of His nose. Perhaps His hair is long, or short, His head covered or bare.
All these things can differ as we look at Him. But one thing remains the same, no matter how we see Him.
For His eyes are the same for us all. They are filled with love.
Can you see the love in Jesus’ eyes? The love He has for you? Will you take time now to stop and look? Gaze deeply into His eyes as you would with someone you love. What do you see there?
Set aside any emotion you may have that will filter His love for you. Any guilt, anger, bitterness or hatred. Any shame or sorrow. Ask Him to take it from you for just a moment. See yourself giving it to Him, and watch Him hold it close to His heart and then turn and put it behind Him. As He turns back to you look into His eyes again. Feel His love for you. Let it wash over you in a healing shower like cool water on a hot summer’s day.
Will you let Him love you? Will you do this for Him? His eyes shine with love and understanding. He yearns to show you how much He loves you – what you mean to Him – how very special you are to Him. You are His co-heir, a Prince or Princess in His Father’s Kingdom.
Rejoice in His love today. Return again and again, to look into His eyes. The love never changes.
How did Jesus show His love for you today? For each one of us, it will be different. Sharing your story may help others open themselves up to experience His love in a new way.
God bless you as He shows you just how much He loves you, special Child of God.
