I remember

Lord Jesus, today I remember.

I remember the way you were beaten and cursed as they tortured you.

I remember the heavy weight of the cross they made you carry as you struggled up the hill to the Place of the Skull.

I remember the nails – I don’t want to – but I do – as they raised their hammers and brought them down.

I remember the pain on your face.

I remember the love in your eyes – even then as you looked down at those who surrounded you.

I remember your voice. Hoarse with thirst and pain and a broken heart.

‘It is finished.’

I remember.

Because the ‘they’ is me. It is for my sins you died. I am just as guilty of causing your pain as those who lined the streets and wielded the hammer.

Lord, forgive me.

And I see the love in your eyes.

The love.

For me.

Because you did this for me. You know me by name and you love me so much that nothing was too much for you to go through to pay for my life.

Jesus, today I kneel at the foot of your cross and worship you.

Thank you.

I can find no other words to say that express my feelings any better.

Thank you.
