Today’s the Day

I wrote this in my journal on Saturday 19 May. Perhaps it will be of interest to you.

“Good morning, Lord. Today is a day many people have been waiting for. A royal wedding. Excitement is building. People are already lining the streets of Windsor with their flags to ‘book their spot’. They are dressed in their finery, many with red, white and blue outfits and fancy hats, ready to see the bride and groom on their special day.

Some, of course, don’t care. Weddings don’t appeal to them. Or they may not be Royalists. And after all, there is the FA cup final (Note: Who did win?) … or there is a deadline to meet … or a personal family commitment. And that’s fine – everyone to their own.

But I wonder how these wedding crowds will compare to Yours, Lord, when you come to fetch your bride? There will be many who are ready for You for whom the time and date do not matter for they are Yours. They are already dressed, waiting expectantly for You to come.

There are others who are waiting to hear the time and date before they prepare. Tomorrow or later will be fine as far as they are concerned.

And there are some who are not interested; who have other things to do, and for whom it is not important.

But it is.

For the invitation everyone receives says “Be ready. Only the Father knows the time. Only He knows the day.”

So how do we know when to prepare? I sense there is an urgent need to do it now. We need to turn to You and give You our hearts and our lives, to live in relationship with You.

We each have a written invitation from You that we hold in our hands.

“Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest’ (Matthew 11:28).

And the Spirit and the bride say, “Come!” And let the one who hears say “Come!” Let the one who is thirsty come, and let the one who wishes take the free gift of the water of life. (Revelation 22:17)

Each invitation is in Scripture and has our own name engraved on it.”

You, who are reading this, are invited to be the Bride of Christ – a member of His Church. Don’t miss this wedding for all of eternity. But hear the voice of the Bridegroom, Jesus Christ, your Saviour, say to you, His Bride, His Church, “Come!’

Perhaps today is the day. Perhaps it is not. But I for one do not want to miss this eternal wedding, for I know the reception will be out of this world!

Will you join me and accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour too if you have not already done so? Will you be ready?
