Prayer for the Church

I wrote this poem in 1995 but I think it is as applicable today as it was then. Where is the church in all that’s going on? I’ll leave you to answer that in your own world. But perhaps you feel a need to pray this prayer too at this time of uncertainty and change, wherever you live. What do you think?

Shake us up, Lord, make us scramble
Shake us from our comfy seats.
Let there be no more pre-amble
Let us not accept defeat.
Help us to put into action
All the gifts You have bestowed
Let there be no satisfaction
Till we’re far along Your road.
May Your Spirit fill each member
Of your family worshipping here
Light in us a burning ember
To quell complacency and fear.
May we go forth in joy and daring
Trusting You each step we take,
With Your love shining through our caring
Lord God, please, give us a shake!

About Mandy Hackland

My love in life is to encourage others to deepen their relationship with God. I write devotional material, stories and small group studies with that in mind. I live in South Africa and also love spending time in the bush, bird watching and walking. I have moved to the coast and am enjoying the green spaces and beautiful vistas that surround me, reminding me of God's grace every day.
