Simplicity

Sometimes, I think, we make life too complicated. Simplicity does not only mean de-cluttering our homes of stuff. It means a lifestyle. Cutting out the waste, the unnecessary activities, the stress. Jesus said, “Seek first the Kingdom of God, and all these things will be given to you.” What would it be like to live a life free of stress? Are we our own worst enemies? Do we make life too complicated? This is a poem of questions – ones you can read and forget, or consider in the light of your own lifestyle. What could Jesus be saying you today through these words? Do you hear Him?

Could I lead a simple life
Free of worry, full of peace,
Free of care, desire and strife
When all of my anxieties cease?

Could I give my goods away
With cheer and love and joyous heart?
Or would I come to rue the day
When I and earthbound treasures part?

Do I love my glorious King
With heart and soul, with all of me?
Or am I tied to earthly things
And only think that I am free?

Help me put You first, my Lord,
Above all earthly things I hold
May all the treasure that I hoard
Be earned in Heaven,
Eternal gold.
