Discovering Hope

#6

Some people are afraid of God. They hear about God as Judge and know they cannot live up to any standards He sets, so they do not want to have anything to do with Him.

But, my friends, let me tell you something. None of us – not one of us – can live up to God’s standards. For God is perfect and we are not. We live in a broken, fallen world.

So how can we ever hope to face this God who will judge us?

There is a way.

Firstly, He does not judge as we do. He has a perfect grasp of who we are and who He is and the gap in between. The way He judges is incomprehensible to us, but we need to remember that He is Love and so His judgement will be absolutely just.

Secondly, He knew we would fall short and so He sent Jesus to pay the price for our sin and stand in the gap for us. That is what the Cross is all about. Some years ago, I wrote a poem which expresses our hope in Jesus. Here is part of it:

Lord Jesus, You are my dear Friend
You’re always there for me each day
And when my life draws to an end
You’ll take my hand and this will say:

Dear Heavenly Father – here’s Your child
My sister and co-heir in love.
Please look on her with eyes so mild
And welcome her to Heaven above.

So then, with wonder and with fears
I will await the voice of God
Maybe with anguish and with tears
In trepidation of the rod.

But, oh, what joy! Can this be true?
The Father speaks, ‘My dearest Son,
I see no sin – I see but You
For this dear child the battle’s won!

You died for her and now the light
That shines in glory from Your face
Hides all her sin, she has the right
To dwell with Us here in this place!

This is my God – because of Jesus. He can be your God too. Open your heart and your life to Jesus Christ who died on the cross for you, because He loves you, and know that God, the Judge loves you too. Jesus paid for our sin once and for all

Jesus is the way. God bless you as you call His name. Jesus. Jesus.

Some Scriptures to ponder:

John 3:16-18 For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send His Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through Him. Whoever believes in Him is not condemned …

Romans 5:6 You see at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly.

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

John 14:6 Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’
