I have learnt to know God as my Healer. Let me tell you a story.
There was a time when I used to get tension headaches caused from sitting at a desk and a computer for too many hours. My shoulders and upper back would tighten up; the muscles around my head would constrict as if a band was tied around my skull and I would struggle with the resulting headaches. My hobbies of knitting, reading and bird-watching with a pair of heavy binoculars around my neck did not improve the situation.
Massage helped. Pain killers helped. But the overall effect of such discomfort was a restraint on my ability to live life as I wanted to do.
Then I attended a conference. It’s focus was the love of God and one of the evening sessions was on God as Healer. It was an interesting talk and the 5000 people in the hall that evening were absorbed. We were all believers, but many of us had never prayed for anyone for healing or even been prayed for. It was something other people did.
At the end of the session the speaker called his team to the stage. There were 40 of them. Plenty to pray for those with health problems. He listed a few and asked people to put up their hands if they suffered from these conditions. Heart; digestion; and so on. But then he asked for people who suffered from muscular pain, especially tension headaches. Of the 5000 strong audience, approximately 3000 of us put up our hands, including me.
He was stunned. His team of 40 could not cope with such numbers. He told us there was only one way we would be able to experience God as Healer that night – and that was to pray for one another. He requested each person to pray for their neighbour.
The lady next to me looked at me with big eyes. She had never done this before – and neither had I. But there was no other way.
So, holding hands she prayed a simple prayer. “Father we believe You are Healer. Please heal Mandy’s neck, shoulder and head muscles. Free her from pain and let her live the abundant life Jesus promised His followers.”
That was all.
I was on holiday so not doing too many of the things that caused the pain at the time. But on my return home, I realised I could sit at my computer, knit, read for much longer than I had ever been able to do. I was free of pain. I had been healed.
Since then I have spent many hours writing books for God. Something I could not have done before because of the pain spending the extra time at my computer would have generated.
A few words, whispered by a person who believed in the healing power of Jesus Christ and God moved in power.
God is our Healer. Even today He is healing, in the midst of this pandemic. Healing relationships, bodies, minds, spirits. He will heal you too, if you ask Him.
He will use you as a channel of His healing power, if you ask Him.
Remember. He loves you. It is His delight to heal you and free you from the bondage of whatever is restraining you.
Ask Him today. Will you?
