Jesus arrived at the home of Jairus to find the people wailing and mourning the synagogue leader’s daughter who had died. He said to them:
Stop wailing … She is not dead but asleep. Luke 8:52
Today you are invited to consider these words of Jesus. Many of us have lost loved ones in the past months from Covid and other reasons. People die and we mourn them. Some of us will wail, some will bury their grief, only letting it run free when we are alone. How do you grieve? What is Jesus saying to you about your grief? It is unlikely those you love will come back to life, but how about the prospect of meeting them again when you too start to live your own gift of eternal life because of your relationship with Jesus? How do you feel about Jesus’ words to you today? ‘She is not dead but asleep …’ Speak to Him about any struggles you may have. What do you need from Him today? Listen for His response.
May you know God’s comfort and peace today as you grieve yourself or on behalf of others.
