Some days after the time Jesus had spent with His disciples, Jesus took Peter, James and John up a mountain where they witnessed the event known as the Transfiguration. No words of Jesus are recorded by Luke during this time, but when they went down the mountain again they were met by a rowd and Jesus met a man who begged Him for help with the man’s son who was ill. Jesus’ response was, perhaps, surprising:
‘You unbelieving and perverse generation. … how long shall I stay with you and put up with you? Bring your son here.’ Luke 9:41
Today you are invited to consider how you hear these words of Jesus. Was He angry, frustrated, tired? He had just had what we refer to as a ‘mountain top experience’. Had He been brought back to earth with a bang? How do you feel about such events in your life? You are close to Jesus, everything seems to be going well. But then something happens which destroys your euphoria and makes you question yourself, others, and even life. How do you overcome these feelings? What do you do? What does Jesus say about the way you feel? Perhaps He understands more than you think He does. Speak to Him next time you have such an occasion happen in your life. Listen to Him as He replies to you.
May God bless you with His peace today.
