Various people came to Jesus and asked Him to wait for them to follow Him. These are His responses to them:

‘Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has no place to lay His head.’ … ‘Follow Me’ ”’ ‘Let the dead bury their own dead but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.’ … ‘No one who puts a hand to the plough and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.’ Luke 9:58,59,60, 62

Today you are invited to consider what these excuses mean to Jesus. How do you think the people He spoke to felt? How would you feel if He asked you to do something for you, you made some excuse, and He turned to respond to you in this way? What would you do as a result? What are you doing for Him that He has asked you to do? What are you avoiding? Speak to Jesus today about these things. What changes, if any, will you make as a result of this conversation?
