In a conversation with an expert in the Law, Jesus agreed with the man when he said that to inherit eternal life he should love God with all that he is and his neighbour as himself. The man wanted more, so Jesus told the parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:30-35). Then He asked another question about the three passers-by in the parable (the priest, the Levite and the Samaritan):
“Which of these three do you think was a neighbour to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” Luke 10:36
Today you are invited to consider what sort of neighbour you are. How do you respond to people around you when you become aware of a need? How do you feel when God nudges you to take action and yet such action will take you out of your comfort zone? Do you ignore such feelings, wriggle a bit, or leap into action? What influences your response? What has happened in the past when you turned away – and what was the result when you followed the nudge? How do you feel about your response now? How will Jesus’ words to you today impact your response in future?
May God bless you with a willing and compassionate heart today.
