Jesus went on with the prayer He wanted His disciples of all ages to pray:
Father, hallowed be Your Name, Luke 11:2b
Today you are invited to consider how you treat the names of God. Jesus says they are hallowed – holy. How do you feel when you or someone in your hearing uses God’s name as a swear word? What is your reaction when you read a book and the characters or the writer uses God’s name as an expletive? What do you say to people in your hearing who swear in this way? Or do you let it slip away into the past? How would you feel if you spoke to them about it? How would you deal with any adverse reaction they may have – or even a positive reaction? Speak to God about these things today and ask Him to show you how to respond in such situations that His name may truly be hallowed in your presence.
May God bless you with courage to speak out when you find yourself in a situation where His name is being used in vain. May He give you the words to say and the strength to stand firm.
