Have you ever marveled at how it all happens? The world, the stars, the colours, life? And you? How did you happen? Why are you here at this moment of time in the place where you find yourself? Who am I that God is mindful of me? The wonder of it never ceases to amaze me. Some time ago I wrote this poem – I hope it blesses you as the concept of it blesses me. For I am God’s – and so are you.
Momentum – Creation’s History
Just a sigh, barely a movement brooding over deep and sluggish water,
Just a whisper, breathed in anticipation,
Gaining momentum until it roared
‘Let there be light’ – and there was light and it was good.
Just a choice, not even a big one really.
To eat forbidden fruit or not? But the choice, when made,
Gained momentum and hurtled out of control, changing the world.
Just a child, scarcely important,
Growing to manhood in the hills around Nazareth,
Gaining momentum until …
He died, hanging on a cross like a common thief.
Just a man, one of many that night, visiting his friends in a crowded room,
Securing momentum,
For He was the one who had died and lived again
The Son of God …
And seasons changed
And centuries passed
And life itself moved on – until …
Just a girl – young and shy;
Just an ordinary girl in the 1970’s
Who met this living-again man – the Son of God
And her whole world changed – lit up by love in multi-coloured hues,
Growing in momentum, filling up with joy, hope and assurance,
Never to be the same, never to be alone.
For this is the momentum of the history of creation
The history of all who say “Yes’ to this risen-again man – the Son of God.
A really wonderful poem. I loved the style of it. Thank you for sharing these powerful, thought-provoking ‘just…’ events.

Thank you so much. Sometimes we make life so complicated when it only needs to be ‘just’ …
