On 22 April 2017, a prayer meeting was held outside Bloemfontein – a city in the middle of South Africa. The challenge was for one million people to go to the meeting and pray for the country. I was unable to go, but there were groups of people around the country – and in fact around the world, who gathered to pray at the same time. I joined one of those groups – and this poem was given to me during that time. If your country is not South Africa, do take this opportunity to pray for your own land; if you do live here, pray again for the land you love. May God bless your homeland today.
One Million – It’s Time
It started small.
A seed of an idea
Planted in a time of uncertainty,
Planted in a mind of fertile soil,
The mind of a farmer.
Nurtured by the Sower of Seeds,
The Ultimate Farmer.
Watered and tended in the secret places.
And it grew,
Until it broke through the soil
And became a spoken word.
One.
Million
People.
Christ-followers,
To gather in one place at one time.
One.
Million.
The shofar blew;
The clarion call was sounded
And people awoke from their slumber
Sat up and listened.
And made plans.
One million people?
No, not one million.
For around the land, the idea caught fire;
Burst into flame.
Others, unable to be there for whatever reason,
Met in clusters.
“Where two or three are gathered in My name.”
And so they came –
On foot, in buses, by car, on bikes, on horseback,
Some, many, flew in from other lands,
Called by God,
Called by love of country
To gather,
To humble themselves,
To fall to their knees and pray.
The shofar blew
And at the allotted time,
No, even before time,
God answered.
Fences moved, water sought and found
Flowing freely, for both body and spirit;
Facilities provided.
Who will pay? Who will pay?
No charge – God has paid.
Logistics managed.
The miracle unfolds.
One.
Million.
People?
No, not one million.
One.
Point.
Seven
Million.*
How does God feel
As He looks down on His children?
“Fear not, little flock.
Quiet yourselves for I am your God.
I hold your future in my hands.
Do not be afraid …
Stand firm.”
And everything will happen as God has decreed.
For this land is His land.
Wherever you live
Your land is His land.
“Where two or three are gathered in My name…
Then I will hear from heaven
Forgive their sins
And heal their land.”
God has promised.
And He will do it.
Hallelujah, Hallelujah. Amen.
